The mission of Istituto Italiano della Saldatura - Non Profit Distribuiting Organization (IIS) is to “promote and foster in Italy the progress of welding in all fields, including similar and complementary techniques, and to contribute to its knowledge and dissemination”.
To this end, the Institute performs an intense information and popularisation activity.
IIS is a founding member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and of the European Welding Federation (EWF). The Institute has always held top positions at these organisations.
In addition to that, IIS cooperates or oversees various executive committees, for research and regulation at European and international level.
The active presence of the Italian Institute of Welding in these bodies results in intense international activity that produces contacts with similar institutes in the most industrially developed countries.
IIS holds the Chair of the Welding Commission of UNI. In this role, it takes an active part in the works of ISO (International Standardization Organization) and CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation).
Over more than seventy years of activity, IIS has contributed to drawing up an imposing amount of technical regulations, making use of the knowledge deriving from studies and research, and of the practical experience gained from its technical support activity.
Today, IIS employs about 70 people and performs services through its Laboratory, institutional activities through the organisation of conferences and technical workshops, it coordinates the sales and marketing strategies of the Group and research and development activities, assures and deals with external relations for the Group through its media. IIS also includes the main corporate services functions for the companies in the IIS Group.
On 22 February 2016, the Executive Committee of IIS approved the Organisation, Management and Control Model pursuant to It. Law Decree 231/2001.
